Those Lips

Was looking through old photos on my phone and found a few sweet ones of Lucette. I love this girl's lips. She has had the hand-foot-mouth virus the past few days (or something similar) so I have been trying not to kiss her. It's hard.

Her hair was sweaty when I took off her hat and I couldn't resist.

Her first lemon. Kids make the best pucker faces.
…it didn't look like she was enjoying it, but she just kept going back for more.

I'm leaving tomorrow for residency in Louisville and the start of my 4th, and last, semester of grad school…which means no more kisses for 8 days. I'm going to miss my girls (and boy).
Poppy climbed into my suitcase when I was trying to pack and told me to buckle her in and take her places. Sounds like she's going to like traveling as much as I do.

So Much for Mother's Day

The girls' gift to me this year was fevers, pneumonia, a weird rash, and ear infections (the pediatrician thinks it's mycoplasma). the night before Mother's Day, Lucette refused to go to sleep and after finally passing out from exhaustion she continued to wake up about every two hours. She and I did not go to church. Sunday night was Poppy's turn. She ended up in our room for most of the night, and there were a couple of points in there when all four of us were in one bed. Very cozy.

I may not have had much of a break on Mother's Day--and yes I'm complaining right now--but I do love my two crazies like crazy. And I'm very thankful that they seem to be doing better today.

We did also have some quality time with the family. We spent most of the weekend with Bry's side and were able to be with his grandpa who hasn't been doing very well.
Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Blake, Bry, and girls
Sunday afternoon we were with my family (swapping sick germs). The moms tried to escape for a relaxing hour at a coffee shop, but we ended up spending most of that time wandering around town like a bunch of brainless geese, trying to make a decision and find somewhere that was open. It was semi-relaxing. But even that was pretty fun with those ladies. (I love you girls!)

Bry had tried to plan a surprise for me on Friday, but I ruined it by going to an aerial yoga class with Kaitlin last minute. On the plus side, I absolutely LOVED the class and am super excited to go again. It was the most fun, interesting, and relaxing workout I've ever done, and I was actually sad when it was over. That never happens.
So, in closing…I'm super proud of all you moms out there. (My two moms included!) It's not an easy calling, but it's so, so important. Thank you for all you do, and keep at it.

Lemons in the Kitchen

They are my favorite thing right now. This may have something to do with the fact that I'm very ready for summer. I've been buying them by the bagful and keeping them on hand. I love how versatile they are. A mega fresh flavor boost for just about any type of food. And the clean smell of lemon peels in the garbage disposal is an added bonus.

A strange version of carbonara sauce with rosemary and lemon to go over homemade pasta we picked up at Pikes Place in Seattle, roasted cauliflower (my other food crush right now), and baby bella mushrooms...

Lemon poppyseed pancakes. OK, I love pancakes and have had many variations. These were over the top incredible…maybe my favorite pancakes ever...

Lemon blueberry coffee cake with lemon glaze. Sadly, just finished the last piece after lunch today. This was also amazing and something I need to remember to make again...

Poppy and Bry requested homemade lemonade after church on Sunday. I told them it wasn't quite warm enough for that kind of summertime business, but humored them anyway. The ice kept us from staying outside for very long, but oh my word, I forgot how good fresh lemonade is.
